Thailand organises Quality Thai Fruits & Vegetables Fair

Venue: Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem, near Government House in Bangkok

The Royal Thai Government is organising the “Quality Thai Fruits & Vegetables Fair” with an aim of providing an opportunity for farmers and small-scaled vendors to sell their quality products directly without going through the middlemen, and at fair prices. The event is also meant to be a model for community markets where business networking can be created along with promotion of Thai culture and identity.

Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem - The Bangkok Floating Market_02The festival is jointly organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Quality Thai Fruits & Vegetables Fair opens from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., featuring 70 booths, which are divided into three zones. The first zone offers vegetables and seasonal fruit. The second zone features fruit trees and seedlings, and the third zone has processed vegetables and fruit.

There are highlight events every week. The first week (6-10 May), namely “Sweet and Sour: Mangoes of various tastes and varieties”, showcased variety of mangoes from around Thailand, including Nam Dokmai from Sakaew province, Khiew Sawoei from Angthong, Jin Hua and R2E2 from Chiang Mai.

During the second week eek (11-17 May), the event is themed “Sweetly Delicious: Pineapple, water melon, pomelo, and lychee”. For example, pineapple Cheek Ta from Prachuab Kirikhan, pineapple Huay Mun from Uttaradit, pineapple Rai Muang from Loei, pineapple Nang Lae from Chiang Rai, various varieties of water melon from Chonburi, pomelo Tha Khoi from Pichit, pomelo Khao Tangkwa from Chainat, and various varieties of lychee from Payao.

Highlight of the 3rd week (18-24 May) is “Fragrant King and Queen of Fruits: Durian and mangosteen” which will see the market filled with variety of the king and queen of fruits from around Thailand, including durian Linlong from Uttaradit, Durian Puangmanee/ Kan Yao/ Nok Krajib from Rayong, and mangosteen from Trat, Prajinburi, Chantaburi, and Rayong.

The last week (25-31 May) will feature “Fresh and Safe: Organic vegetables, banana Hom Thong, and processed fruits” including banana Hom Thong from Petchburi, Indonesian salak from Narathiwas, dried golden longan from Chiang Rai and Lamphun, organic vegetables from Doi Inthanon Royal Project, Chiang Mai and Bangkok.

In addition, the Ministry of Culture is organising a walking street as a tourist attraction in the same area on Fridays and Saturdays, from 8 to 30 May, between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., featuring cultural shows and a bazaar of cultural products from the four regions of the country.
